Lowering Taxes on Middle-Class Families to Grow Our Economy
New York was once known as the epicenter of commerce and entrepreneurial innovation. Now, it might as well be called the “Tax Capitol of the World.”
Right now, middle-class families are stretched thin; they are having trouble paying their bills, filling up their gas tanks, and paying for groceries. Yet, state leaders continue to squeeze taxpayers dry, taking more and more of their hard-earned cash through higher taxes, fines and fees. Our small businesses, overburdened by government taxing away their profits, are heading for the exit and taking their jobs with them. This has left thousands of blue-collar workers unemployed and is forcing young graduates to seek out more business-friendly states to begin their careers and raise their families, depriving New York of our next generation of leaders.
Taxes do not create jobs, they destroy them, and with it, any hopes that our state has to emerge from this economic recession, which began, as any middle-class worker here knows, long before the financial crisis swept the nation.
Sometimes it seems that the only interest group that doesn’t have a lobbyist in Albany is taxpayers. That’s why I have tried to be your strongest advocate in the Assembly. And, why, as your representative, I will continue to stand up against special interests and downstate leaders who use upstate residents as their own personal piggy bank. I will continue to fight to reduce taxes and remove the shackles that high taxation have placed on our small businesses, so they can once again grow, create jobs, and help you build a better future for your family.
